Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist?
Good news! You do not need a referral from your doctor to see a physiotherapist. Since 1999 changes in the Canadian legislation eliminated the doctor’s referral to access a physiotherapist. This means you can walk in to receive the therapy without seeing your doctor first. Physiotherapy is considered a primary care health profession. However, some insurance companies may require a physician’s referral to the physiotherapist for reimbursements. Please call your insurance company ahead of time or give us a call and our friendly client experience coordinator will be happy to assist you.
