Herniated Disc or Disc Bulge
What is Herniated Disc or Disc Bulge?
A herniated disc, also known as a disc bulge, is a spinal injury in which the soft, jelly-like material inside a spinal disc protrudes through a tear or rupture in the outer layer of the disc. The discs in the spine are like cushions that separate the vertebrae, which are the bones that make up the spine. A herniated disc can occur anywhere along the spine, but it is most common in the lower back (lumbar spine) or the neck (cervical spine).
A herniated disc can cause pressure on nearby nerves, which can result in pain, numbness, or weakness in the affected area. The symptoms can range from mild to severe, depending on the location and severity of the herniation. Treatment options for a herniated disc need comprehensive examination from physiotherapy / chiropractor.
