What are the causes of Lower Back Pain?

According to the Canadian Chiropractic Association, up to 85% of Canadians will experience lower back pain at some point in their lifetime. It refers to pain or discomfort felt in the lower part of the back, between the hips and the rib cage.

Lower back pain can have many different causes, some of the more common ones are:

Lower back pain can range from a mild ache to severe and debilitating pain. Treatment for lower back pain will depend on the underlying cause of the pain, and physiotherapy is one of the primary ways in which this pain can be managed and reduced. 

What happens in Lower Back Pain?

    Stiffness or limited range of motion: Pain and stiffness in the lower back can make it difficult to move or perform everyday activities.

    Muscle spasms: Sudden, painful muscle contractions in the lower back can be a sign of muscle strain or spasm.

    Numbness or tingling: Numbness or tingling in the legs or feet can be a sign of sciatica or nerve root compression/injiru, a condition in which a herniated disc or other issue in the lower back presses on the sciatic nerve or nerve root.
